HELP PREVENT WIND BLOWN LITTER! The Village of Vernon Hills requires that residents secure their garbage and recycling carts to prevent wind blown litter. If there are strong winds expected and/or your cart is overflowing, please be sure to secure it with a restraining strap or bungee cord.
Violators may be ticketed and fined under Illinois Compiled Statutes 415 ILCS 105 Litter Control Act, as well as Sec 9-3(c)(3) of the municipal code that requires residents to keep refuse containers tightly covered at all times (except when placing or removing garbage).
Additionally, the Village would like to remind everyone that containers, debris, refuse, landscaping materials, or recyclables shall not be placed curbside, in public view for collection, before 5:00 p.m. on the day prior to the scheduled collection.
Containers shall be removed and stored in accordance with Village ordinance before 7:00 p.m. on the collection day. All Waste and recycling containers of garbage, debris, refuse, bundled landscaping materials and recyclables shall be stored inside a garage, building or dwelling and out of public view.
