Landscaping / Personal Plantings

Picture
Common area landscape maintenance is the responsibility of the Sarah's Glen Homeowners Association. To meet this obligation, the board contracts with certified landscape professionals for seasonal landscape services and other related services. Any plantings and maintenance of Common Areas shall be done only by a Board approved service provider, or a Board approved volunteer committee. Per the rules and regulations, the cost to repair any landscape damage deemed to be caused by a homeowner, their family, guests or pets shall be charged to the homeowner.

April 2017 Update: Sebert Landscaping will again be providing seasonal landscape services to Sarah's Glen this year. Our weekly service day will usually occur on Friday (weather permitting). If inclement weather prevents service from occurring on Friday, the alternate service day is typically on Saturday. Sebert's maintenance crews are charged with carrying out association rules and regulations as it relates to plantings and will remove any unauthorized plants/flowers/vegetation they find in areas defined as common (see below).

What are the HOA rules and regulations regarding personal plantings?
  1. Flower plantings (annuals/perennials) may be planted in individual Homeowner's personal flowerbed areas, but shall not exceed 24 inches in height.
  2. Fruits/Vegetables are not permitted to be planted in any personal flowerbed or association common area. Fruits/Vegetables may only be planted in container pots and such containers must reside on the individual homeowner's patio or deck.
  3. Removing sod, trees, shrubs, or creating additional planting areas is prohibited.
  4. Individual homeowners are responsible for the maintenance of their personal flower plantings (if any) and should not interfere with landscape maintenance crews.
  5. Flowers (or any other vegetation) shall not be planted around trees, shrubs or in any common area.
  6. All annuals must be removed at the end of the growing season, but no later than November 1st.
  7. Climbing or trellis plantings are not permitted, unless approved by the Board prior to installation. Climbing or trellis plantings will only be allowed in independent pots and trellis.  Attaching climbing plants to individual home exteriors, railings, posts or decks is PROHIBITED.
  8. Flower and window boxes can be attached to the deck railing. Stand alone flower boxes, pots and containers are allowed on individual patios and decks. Plant hangers may only be installed on the wood trim of the buildings and decks.
  9. Damage to the exterior concrete, brick or wood of an individual Townhome as a result of plant hangers or flower boxes are the responsibility of the Homeowner. Any repairs undertaken by the association shall be charged the Homeowner.

Can I add fresh mulch to my personal flowerbed area(s)?
Periodically, the Homeowners Association contracts with a vendor to provide and spread a fresh layer of hardwood mulch in the association's planting areas and tree rings. Homeowners may purchase and spread additional (or fresh) mulch in their personal flowerbed area(s) as long as it is consistent with the color, type and grade that the association has spread. Currently, this is a premium triple ground mulch which has a dark, rich brown color. The use of artificial/synthetic mulch (such as rubber) is PROHIBITED.
