Christmas Tree Disposal / Pickup Information

12/20/2012

There are three environmentally friendly options available to Sarah's Glen residents to dispose of your Christmas tree.
  1. You can drop off your tree at the Lake County Forest Preserve for recycling. Donated trees are chipped and used for trails and for landscaping at forest preserves throughout Lake County. Bring your tree to the conveniently located Half Day drop-off site in Vernon Hills  Drop-offs are accepted only between December 26 and February 1. Only undecorated, real Christmas trees can be accepted; no yard waste. Commercial drop-offs are prohibited. Lake County Forest Preserves are open from 6:30 a.m. to sunset, daily. More information and additional drop off points can be found at the LCFP website.
  2. The Vernon Hills Public Works department will be picking up Christmas trees in Sarah's Glen on Thursday, January 10th and on Thursday, January 17th.  Your tree must be at the curb by 7:00am the day of pick-up and have all lights, ornaments, stands and bags removed from the tree.  If bad weather prevents pickup on the scheduled dates, there will be a make-up days on Friday January 11th and Friday January 18th.
  3. After January 18th, you may bring your tree to the Vernon Hills Public Works building for recycling.  Public Works will not pick-up trees after the January 18th make-up date (if it's needed).

Seasonal Parking Restrictions

12/19/2012

Please keep in mind that, according to Village Ordinance 22-321, vehicles cannot be parked on Village streets for 12 hours after a snowfall of two inches or more. While this may serve as a minor inconvenience, it is absolutely necessary to have a free path for snow plows to clear the streets in a timely fashion.

Additionally, all parking in designated parking spaces during/following a snowfall is prohibited and will subject the vehicle to towing. Designated parking spaces will also be used as snow piling/stacking locations as conditions dictate.

Compliance with these snow-related rules is appreciated in advance. Together, we can make the winter-time pass quicker if we all do our part to make snow removal a quick and painless process.

NOTE: As always, village ordinance 22-263 prohibits parking on all village streets between 2am-6am (which includes streets in Sarah's Glen). Police officers will issue parking tickets for overnight parking violations in Sarah's Glen. Village Parking tickets can be paid online by clicking here.

If your car is towed, you can pay/pick up your car at Ernie's Towing, 909 S Milwaukee Ave, Vernon Hills IL 60061. Warning signage at both entrances to Sarah's Glen provide more information regarding Ernie's towing fees, pick up hours, etc.
