National Weather Service - Blizzard Alert!

1/31/2011

IMPORTANT!  Please keep all vehicles off of the streets and out of guest parking spaces during this event.  Our snow plow company will be using guest parking spaces as primary snow disposal locations.

As mentioned in the Chicago Tribune article below, it is highly unlikely that snow plows will be able to keep up with the anticipated downfall.  Be extremely cautious driving and walking on the streets during this event!

Chicago Tribune Article
Forecast: 'Potentially life-threatening' blizzard
The National Weather Service has issued an unusually dire blizzard watch, calling a storm expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon over much of northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana "dangerous, multifaceted and potentially life-threatening."

All told, forecasters expect at least a foot of snow over much of the watch area. White-out conditions are expected at times Tuesday night, with snowfall rates of at least 2 to 3 inches per hour possible with northeast winds of 25 to 40 mph and even stronger gusts.

Localized totals in excess of 18 inches are possible.

Conditions are expected to deteriorate from north to south across the region Tuesday afternoon with travel becoming "virtually impossible" at times Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, according to the weather service.  Plows will be unable to keep up with the downfall.

Christmas Tree Recycling

1/17/2011

Haven't disposed of your Christmas tree yet?  An earth friendly Christmas tree disposal program is available from the Lake County Forest Preserve District.  The LCFPD offers Christmas tree recycling at several drop off sites until January 31st, 2011.  The closest drop off location to Sarah's Glen is at the Half Day Forest Preserve.  For more information on this program, click here.

If you are disposing of your tree through Veolia, only put the tree out on the specific day they are collecting Christmas trees.  If you miss this day, do not put or leave your tree on the curb.  Your only option will be to take it to a recycling or disposal location
